Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : YOUR PRIDE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE WELFARE OF TWO CHILDREN?

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Herr Deutsch,

When will you admit that you backed the wrong horse? Michael Schlesinger, a man with a history of abandonment and violent domestic abuse, has orchestrated complete estrangement between his sons and their mother. And you and your community helped him towards his goal at every step.

You have dug yourselves into a hole of righteous indignation from which your pride will not allow you to emerge. Meanwhile your pride is destroying the lives of two young boys who cannot receive their mother's love.

Ask yourself honestly, would you leave your own children in the care of Michael Schlesinger, a man so consumed with hatred that he denies his sons the love of their mother and grandparents? Would you leave your own children or grandchildren in his sole care even for one afternoon?

And yet your pride is more important than the welfare of two children under the umbrella of your community on the watch of the upstanding Oskar Deutsch.

When you look back on your life's achievements Herr Deutsch, I hope you will be able to live with the knowledge of how you helped Michael Schlesinger to destroy the lives of Sammy and Benji and then you abandoned those two innocent boys. Good job Oskar!

We will not stop showing the truth to the world until you finally show some decency, swallow your pride, and help the innocent instead of turning away.

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR THIS?

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Dear Herr Deutsch

I learned about the distressing situation of Beth Alexander's custody issues 10 years ago when I was heavily pregnant with my eldest child. I have thought of Beth often since then as I have been able to mark my babies' milestones.  Every time that I think her situation cannot get any more upsetting, it does. Before I was a mother I couldn't understand how anyone could be so vindictive to keep a clearly loving mother away from their children. Now that I am a parent I do not know how Beth continues to live with the cruelty that is inflicted upon her. I find it unfathomable how an entire community can ostracise Beth and will not support a clearly intelligent, kind and loving mother to be with her children. Please could you share with me what the reasons are for this?

All that it takes for evil to triumph is that good men stand by and watch. I do not wish to be a bystander and I would hope that neither do you. Please do what you can to support Beth to be present in Sammy and Benji's lives.

Yours sincerely
Helen Cahill

Open Letter To Ronald Lauder : MAUS AND ATROCITIES

jspinner@lauderfoundation.com
info@worldjewishcongress.org
wjc@wjc.co.il

Dear Mr Lauder,

I read with interest of your recent condemnation of McMinn County School’s ban of Art Spiegelman’s graphic Holocaust novel Maus.

The Tennessee school’s board members felt that the book’s graphic depictions of violence, murder, nudity, profanity and suicide are unsuitable for children. However, you adamantly disagreed, and condemned the ban “in the strongest possible terms” – alongside your rightful condemnation of Whoopi Goldberg’s woefully ignorant remarks – offering to distribute over fifty-three thousand free copies of Maus to members of McMinn County members and to Whoopi Goldberg.

Evidently you are a strong proponent of using graphic and explicit images in order to educate the world, including children, about history’s atrocities.

May I suggest an idea for a similar graphic novel that perhaps you could commission? It’s mainly intended for a Jewish community where I believe you have much power and influence; no other medium seems to have been effective in ending an atrocity that is taking place there, and perhaps a graphic novel will send a more powerful message. I’m sure this community and beyond would find it a fascinating, educational and suitably shocking, disturbing and distressing read.

Here are some ideas of scenes that could appear in the book; you don’t believe in sparing any detail, so it should be as sinister-looking as possible. It would depict ACTUAL EVENTS alleged to have taken place in 21st-century Vienna over the last 12 years, more or less in chronological order:

-    A terrified young woman running at night through the streets and railway stations of Vienna, searching for a domestic violence shelter to escape from her violent husband.

-    The same woman returning home, to be confronted with an entire army comprising her angry husband, his colluding family, a psychiatrist, police and paramedics, all attempting to commit her to a mental institution under false pretences.

-    Armed police officers and the now-ex-husband, at half an hour’s notice, storming into the home of the mother of healthy, thriving toddler twin boys; the loving mother screaming and protesting as they seize her crying children away from her and carry them out of the house; she has no idea if or when she will ever see them again.

-    Neighbours frequently hearing screams of children emanating from the ex’s apartment; they report this to the authorities, but their efforts are in vain.

-    The mother’s horror upon noticing that both two-year-olds are missing front teeth.

-    One of the twins, now age four, repeatedly ramming his head into a brick wall at school as a means of self-harm.

-    Several courtroom scenes, spanning years, each judgement more cruel, bizarre, illogical and inhuman than the last.

-    The bereft mother desperately pleading to a powerful, influential figure to help her bring her children back; he simply turns and walks away from her.

-    A legal document forbidding her from contacting her children, age 12, who apparently say they do not want her in their lives.

I’m sure you realize by now exactly which story I’m referring to. You’re familiar enough with the lies, conspiracy, corruption, and callousness that have taken place within Austria’s court system, and, shamefully, members of the Viennese Jewish Community, leading to this utterly heart-breaking saga that has been ongoing for 12 long years.

I could go on and on with more “scenes” but I nothing I write will do justice to the hell that my friend Beth Alexander has gone through.

I’ll allow you yourself to come up with dire but not-unrealistic futuristic scenes for this hypothetical book; these would be based on possible catastrophic consequences of childhood trauma and induced parental alienation. One cannot not underestimate the toll the latter form of child abuse can take on a child’s behaviour, future relationships, and mental health as they grow into adulthood. Anxiety, depression, substance abuse, abusive relationships, violence, withdrawal, to name but a few… and you are undoubtedly aware of some of the worst-case scenarios which maybe you don’t like to think about.

It would not be a pleasant read.

What kind of scenes would you like to see at the end of this story, Mr Lauder? Happy or sad ones? Your influence can determine how this story will play out in the end.

I would love to hear from you with ideas of happy endings to this story, and how the aforementioned influential person might have brought them about.

But if I don’t hear from you, I’d love to assume it’s because you’re too busy doing everything in your power to reunite Beth, Sammy and Benji once and for all.

Yours sincerely

Open Letter To Alma Zadic : BLATANT CORRUPTION AND MANIPULATION OF THE COURTS

Kerstin.Grill@bmj.gv.at
lll1_bk@bmj.gv.at
minister.justiz@bmj.gv.at
team.pr@bmj.gv.at
team.z@bmj.gv.at

Justice Minister Austria

Dear Dr Zadic,

I am writing to you at 3 am because I cannot sleep, burdened by the overt injustice your Family Court has inflicted on Beth Alexander and her sons, Benji and Sammy Schlesinger. The latest appeal to the court has been denied. No access. No visits. No holidays. No phone calls.

There are very few valid reasons I can think of for a mother and her children to be denied all contact.
1. The mother is an absolute monster.
2. She is so mentally or physically sick that any contact would be upsetting for the children.
3. The other parent or guardian has manipulated the courts to carry out their will.
4. The other parent or guardian has convinced the children that their mother doesn’t care about them.
5. The children are too intimidated by the other parent or guardian to say anything that might upset or anger them.

Videos of interviews with Beth and footage of Beth and her parents lovingly playing with the boys are posted on a You Tube channel called Help Beth. One look at these videos and it is plain to see reasons 1 and 2 are not the case here.

We are left with some combination of the remaining three issues. You have to consider that the other parent, Dr Michael Schlesinger, was himself estranged from his father from the age of three when his mother denied the father all contact. Despite being a doctor, Schlesinger has grown into an abusive and vindictive father who would rather inflict the most painful revenge on his ex-wife than care about the emotional welfare of his children. All this while sending taunting text messages to Beth.

The boys are 12 years old. It is not too late to repair the relationship with their mother and their warm extended family in England before they become the next generation of angry and emotionally disturbed men in a dysfunctional family.

The path to this situation was littered with corruption and characters looking out for their own interests from the start. At the very heart is the Vienna Jewish Community (the IKG) who were eager to support one of their own, a doctor no less, and side with him against the stranger among them. Erstwhile “friends” of Beth have admitted to her that they spread lies about her mental state, colluded to trick her into a phoney psychological examination, and finally turned their backs on her. Some were instructed to do so by their husbands. One has said that she regrets her part in this charade and has apologised to Beth. Too little too late.

Rabbi Jacob Biderman, the Chabad Rabbi and Principal of the Lauder Chabad School, where the boys attend, repeatedly stated that they were doing well after being taken from their mother by police while she was feeding them their supper. This despite obvious regressions, depression and self-harming (little Benji running into a brick wall to try and numb his pain).

Biderman blocked Beth from entering the school and wouldn’t give her any information about her sons’ welfare or progress. She was not even allowed to attend their class birthday parties as all parents do. Biderman claimed that he had a letter from Schlesinger’s lawyers telling him to do this. The lawyers denied this in court and no letter has been produced. However, Beth’s pleading emails to Biderman were dutifully forwarded by him, to Schlesinger’s lawyers and a judge in the Jewish community who was supposedly not connected to the case.

The fact is that Biderman needs the support of the Jewish community or he loses his job. If two little boys and their innocent mother have to be destroyed in the process he doesn’t care. This is a Rabbi sent by the Chabad organization whose whole raison d’etre is to help Jewish people around the world by spreading love and community values. You couldn’t make it up if you wanted to.

You have the policemen who didn’t understand why they had to take the boys. Social workers who tried to help Beth because they saw no reason for this action. A judge from the community who got involved despite being a friend of Schlesinger and it not being her case.

You have the same judge residing over this case for the past decade, who would have to admit that she made mistakes in order to change her rulings. What is the point of the right to appeal when the same judge is just reviewing her own performance every time? A judge who went the extra mile for Schlesinger by visiting his home for tea in order to check his suitability as a father and homemaker. At no time did she personally check out Beth’s home – with or without the tea.

You have the leader of the IKG, Herr Oskar Deutsch, who, when asked to use his influence to try to remedy this tragic situation, replies with a letter berating Beth for not approaching him in the correct manner. A man who makes speeches on Holocaust Memorial Day saying “Never Forget!” and “Never Again!” whilst keeping silent when two more Jewish babies are torn from their mother’s arms and denied her love. Hollow words indeed.

You have the Chief Rabbi of the UK flying to Vienna to mediate on Beth’s behalf. You have her local MP speaking about this travesty of justice in the British Houses of Parliament. You have journalists, Rabbis, and 6,000 supporters on a Facebook group, all doing everything and anything we can. And Herr Deutsch suggests Beth try mediation. Ha!

Perhaps the Austrian Jewish community is untouchable due to their victim status after WWll and the residue discomfort of their countrymen? Some people think this might be true. But someone has to stand up to them when there is blatant corruption and manipulation of the courts. We are begging you, Dr Zadic, to be that someone.

Yours hopefully,

Rachel Selby

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : DO NOT SIT IDLY BY

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Dear Mr Deutsch,

I know by now you have received thousands upon thousands of emails, letters and pleas to help right this gargantuan wrong that has been imposed on Beth, Sammy and Benji. Nothing can change the past, and the precious moments these 3 beautiful souls have missed out on together, but there is most certainly a way to rectify this for their future, and restore normality by reuniting Beth with her twin boys.

Having known Beth (and some of her family) for well over a decade now, I have seen first hand the warm, loving, well intentioned and supportive family she comes from. The atrocities Beth and her sons have had to face are just beyond heart-breaking, and beyond disgust. Not only have these two innocent boys been denied their mothers love, care, kindness and affection, during the most influential times of their childhood, but the grandiose misconduct of the Austrian community is perpetuating this malicious injustice and allowing it to continue, real-time, present day. Why, when it is within your power and abilities to put this horrendous and hurtful prejudice to an end – why do you let it continue and furthermore support it going forward? What did Sammy and Benji do to deserve this unfortunate sentence on their lives?

The strength and determination Beth has shown throughout this harrowing ordeal, where so many others would have given up by now, is further testament to the undying, constant and consistent love she feels for her sons, and a drive that only a mothers instinctual, innate love can sustain. My heart bleeds for what Beth has had to go through, as well as all she has missed. No amount of time or money could ever furnish Beth or her boys with the lost moments, smiles, bedtime stories and carefree days in the park they’ve been robbed of – however I beg you – please do not let this continue. Please do not let these two boys grow up without their mother in their lives.

Please do not let this wonderful mother continue to suffer without her own children, and please do not continue to give the rest of the world another reason to hate the jews. This chillul Hashem from within our own needs to stop now. Please Mr Deutsch, Mr Lauder (and all others that stand idly by) – please take action now so that no further harm/damage comes to this family.

People the world over have expressed their complete confusion as to how this ever happened and got this far, and have voiced their amazement at the injustice, misconduct and outright corruption going on within this case.

Beth is a warm-hearted, loving, kind and intelligent woman and friend – however as a mother – it goes even further. She aches for her babies (who are now not even babies/toddlers anymore) and as she yearns for her children, even convicted felons in prison get to see theirs. Why is a warm, loving, homely, caring mother being denied access to her own family? Especially when the good it can bring to the children’s lives, the children’s well-being and the children’s future should be the main focus here. The community has robbed them of so much already – please step in, as we all know you can and should.

This is the most heart-breaking case of injustice and human suffering that never needed to happen to begin with. Please Mr Deutsch – do not be complicit, please do not be complacent and if you have children of your own – and love and care for them even half as much as Beth loves her boys – please do not sit idly by and allow this situation to continue. Please Mr Deutsch, I beg you – act today and save 3 Jewish lives. Their fates rest in your hands.

Regards

Open Letter To Ronald Lauder : PLEASE MR LAUDER, DO NOT IGNORE THIS MATTER

jspinner@lauderfoundation.com
info@worldjewishcongress.org
wjc@wjc.co.il

Dear Mr Lauder

Greetings from Israel. I hope that you are well. I write to you today about a grave issue which is very much in your power to address. It is a severe miscarriage of justice and a human rights issue. It involves a Jewish community that you are well- acquainted with. Please keep reading.

In life, people often have regrets and such regrets often surface when one ages or is nearing death. However, what if there was an opportunity to avoid regret? Surely it would be worth grabbing as soon as it surfaced! I write to offer you an opportunity to do just that!

On the subject of death, last week I attended via zoom, the synagogue service for my dear friend Tandi in Australia who tragically passed away after a brave battle with cancer, aged just 44. The synagogue in Sydney was packed with hundreds of attendees and the zoom video conference was overflowing too. A number of people gave sad and emotional speeches but when Tandi’s sons aged just 12 and 10 stood to speak in tribute to their mother, there was not a dry eye in the room. This was the devastating moment when attendees realised that these two sweet and innocent boys would grow up without the love, comfort, wisdom, attention and care of their doting mother whose bond with them was so special and tight. A tragic circumstance so hard to fathom and grasp, but unfortunately life does throw these curveballs at people and in Australia, sadly, those two little boys have no alternative to a motherless future.

In Austria, now turning to two young Jewish boys in Vienna of the same age as Tandi’s eldest, almost at Barmitvah - Sammy and Benji Schlesinger (I believe you are familiar with the background)…these specific boys DO have an alternative to a motherless future! Yet, quite shockingly, their mother Beth is not in their life (and not for any lack of will, availability, sanity or love on her part).

The most unthinkable miscarriage of justice and atrocious breach of basic human rights has been perpetuated over the past decade. A lovely, educated, well-mannered, special and caring Jewish British woman- Beth Alexander (who you once had the honour of meeting in Vienna)- had the terrible misfortune of suffering through an abusive marriage to an Austrian doctor from the Vienna Jewish community (Dr Michael Schlesinger). Sadly, the marriage was one in which Beth suffered domestic abuse and when the couple’s twin sons Sammy and Benji were toddlers the couple separated. What ensued and has continued to ensue for over a decade now (please let that sink in - A DECADE!) is a barrage of lies, threats, corruption, deceit and manipulation by the ex-husband resulting in highly prejudiced court cases with a prejudiced and influenced judge presiding and a Jewish community who outright turned their back on Beth and went the extra mile by actually contributing to the tragedy, the corruption, the injustice and thus the situation to date. That situation is that Beth has no access whatsoever to her sons (who attend the Lauder Chabad school- more on this below) and her sons are deprived of the love, care and nurturing of their capable, sane, healthy and willing mother (as well as their loving grandparents, uncles and cousins)- can you just imagine if your Aerin and Jane had grown up without their mother, or if you had grown up without yours? Simply unimaginable! It is truly unthinkable and appalling that a Jewish mother could be torn apart and prevented any contact or access to her sons! Beth is alive and well, yet for inexplicable reasons, these boys do not have their mother in their life! A tragedy particularly poignant, given the history of the Jewish people in Austria.

Rabbi Biderman, who runs the Lauder Chabad school has sadly been instrumental in perpetuating this tragedy on a daily basis. Instead of acting in a manner one would expect of a rabbi- someone who should be wise, unprejudiced, caring, upholding of Jewish values such as the importance of family life and in particular the importance of a mother for her children, Rabbi Biderman is hiding the twins in his school and blocking all contact with their mother, whilst covering up the abuse and scandal. There is no reason whatsoever, why the mother should not be allowed updates and involvement in her sons’ schooling and no reason whatsoever why the mother should not be allowed access to her sons at the school just like any other parent at the school. I call upon you to phone Rabbi Biderman and demand that he ensures he allows immediate, unconditional and unlimited access to the mother at the school.

UK politicians, prominent rabbis from around the world (including the UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis), influential news personalities, women’s organisations and thousands of caring humans across the globe support Beth in her campaign to gain justice and access to her boys. The world (both Jews and non-Jews alike from across the globe) is watching and is disgusted by what it is witnessing. This untenable situation cannot be allowed to continue for a single day longer!

You may be asking yourself why I am writing to you about this. The answer is very simple. Without need to explain why, it is clear that involvement from you and direct influence from you on the key players in Vienna’s Jewish community with whom you are well acquainted, can help to put an immediate end to this madness. The community has in its power the ability to help right this wrong but it has chosen to turn its back and stick to the rhetoric that they are powerless to intervene (despite having intervened detrimentally in the court cases on this matter) and I now offer you the chance to grab the opportunity to avoid regret later - regret at standing idly by the side now that you are aware, rather than actively helping to resolve this appalling situation.

No child should be without their mother and no mother should endure the torture and cruelty that has been Beth’s reality for way too long now. Please Mr Lauder, do not ignore this matter. I implore you to do the necessary so that two sweet and innocent boys are not deprived of their basic human right to have their mother by their side. If ever there was a positive way to use one’s power and influence, this would be it. Please exercise your power and influence today by making the relevant calls and exerting the relevant pressures (on Rabbi Biderman and everyone else who pulls strings within Vienna’s Jewish community), so that there can be a happy continuation to the lives of Beth, Sammy and Benji and all those who love them.

Yours sincerely,

Open Letter To Alma Zadic : BRINGING TO YOUR ATTENTION THE CUSTODY CASE IN VIENNA

Alma Zadic : Minister of Justice in Austria

Kerstin.Grill@bmj.gv.at
minister.justiz@bmj.gv.at
team.pr@bmj.gv.at
team.z@bmj.gv.at

Dear Dr Alma Zadic,

I would like to bring to your attention the custody case in Vienna of Beth Alexander and her twins Sammy and Benji Schlesinger.

It would appear that as a result of complicity, collusion, conspiracy and corruption in the Austrian judicial system, full custody of the children was awarded to Beth's ex husband Michael Schlesinger.

There is now a worldwide campaign to reunite Beth with her children, hence my email.

Consequently, it is bringing this tragic case to worldwide attention and is sullying the reputation of the Austrian legal system.

An urgent review is being called for over the many hearings by the Judge in  question, Suzanne Göttlicher.

It is also alleged that Judge Konstanze Thau, who is not connected with the case but who happens to be a personal friend of the ex-husband seemed to be able to interfere in the hearings and influence their outcome.

It is incomprehensible that the same judge Susanne Göttlicher has apparently presided over every hearing in the last ten years with Beth having no say with regards to the twins safety, nor consulted with decision making with regards to the boys' education, health and well-being, any custody evaluations and being awarded few if any visitation rights.

It would appear that the "best interests of the children" has been totally disregarded on every single occasion, as have the emotional bond between the mother and her boys (who were snatched from her by armed police when only 2 years of age) and the impact on the children of changing the status quo, inter alia.

I look forward to hearing  from you as soon as possible.

Your sincerely,

Mrs Sarah Taylor

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : PITTED AGAINST A POWERFUL AND CORRUPT SYSTEM

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Dear Mr Deutsch,

Judaism has a dedication to the ideal of justice. The moral imperatives of justice, ethics and morality were taught by the Torah and the Jewish prophets, as religious obligations. As Jews, therefore, we have a moral responsibility and duty to making the world a more just and righteous place.

I assume, from reading the IKG website, that all operations and objectives of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien - of which you are President - are based on Jewish values and Torah principles. For example, with regard to donations, this is what the website states:

'Giving is deeply rooted in Judaism. Tzedakah (righteousness) is the Jewish approach against poverty. However, it's not just about mercy but also an appeal for social responsibility.'
'The concept of "tikkun olam" (repairing the world) is one of the guiding principles of Judaism.'

'Fundraising builds bridges between people and brings them together.'

1. How has the IKG  applied the concepts of  'mercy' and 'social responsibility' to Beth Alexander and her children, Sami and Benji?
2. How has the IKG applied the concept of 'tikkun olam' -  'one of the guiding principles of Judaism' -  to Beth and her children? What has the IKG done to 'repair' this gross injustice and help reunite Beth with her children?
3. What fundraising has the IKG organised to bring  together Beth and her children?

Judaism place huge significance on the role of a Jewish mother to raise her children in accordance with the Torah and Jewish values.

Moreover, how we treat the weakest in our midst (the “widow” and “orphan,” to use the Torah’s language) is still the irreplaceable core of our identity. Beth and her children are the 'weakest in our midst' : a lone woman, helpless and powerless, pitted against a powerful and corrupt system that has deprived her of her children and her children of their mother.

I do not know what influence - if any - the IKG has on court proceedings. However, I do know that a gross injustice has been done to Beth and her children and that it is incumbent on the IKG to act on the Jewish values it purports to support. As you are aware, it has been ten years since Beth has been denied custody of her children. Enough is enough now. Regardless of what has gone on in the past, the IKG should now do everything within its power to right this travesty of justice and join the campaign to return the children to Beth's full custody.

Tzedek, tzedek tirdof / צֶ֥דֶק צֶ֖דֶק תִּרְדֹּ֑×£

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : RECOGNISE THE DUTY YOU HAVE

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at

office@ikg-wien.at

Mr President,

The eyes of both the Jewish and secular world are certainly watching you.

Which direction are you going to take?

The right path and assist in the reunion of a bereft Mum and her two young sons by listening to your Yetzer Hatov, your good inclination?

The wrong path and do nothing by listening to your Yetzer Hara, your bad inclination?

This is a defining moment in your presidency. You are being tested as to what will be your legacy.

If you do the right thing, you will always be remembered as a person who had the courage, confidence and self motivation to go against the status quo and put right an unconscionable miscarriage of justice.

"Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way", a quote attributed to the late Martin Luther King.

What do you think this long tragic separation has done to the well-being of two little boys who were ripped from their mothers arms, never mind the mother herself, under what would appear false pretences?

If you don't act now in the best interests of both Benji, Sammy and their Mum, you will always be remembered as the Complicit President denying two small, young children the care, love and protection of their mother during the most formative years of their lives, and what's more, continuing to do so.

The damage that this might have caused is immeasurable. So let us see it coming to an end, now.

Recognise the duty you have.

A very concerned mother

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : DISAPPOINTED

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at

office@ikg-wien.at

To Whom it May Concern

I am deeply distressed to hear that Beth Alexander is still being refused access to her children. As I am sure you are aware, the Torah places great emphasis on the mother – child relationship (Vayikra 22:27 and Devarim 22:6) in the case of animals, which should be the case even more so with human beings.

It is unconscionable that this situation be allowed to continue, and it is imperative that Beth be granted rights of visitation with her children immediately. This is both for her mental health as a mother and that of her sons who need the connection and nurturing from this vital relationship.

While I recognize that marital breakdown situations are often painful and complex, I am extremely disappointed to hear allegations that certain Rabbanim, Shluchim and community activists have interfered with the court processes leading to this appalling injustice and the denying of a mother her vital connection with her children.

I urge you to take whatever steps necessary to ensure that this situation is addressed and resolved, and full visitation rights are afforded to Beth at the earliest possible opportunity.

Yours Faithfully

Rabbi Daniel Lieberman

Chief Rabbi

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : MODICUM OF COMPASSION

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Sir,

I’m writing to beg your help in a very tragic and heart-breaking case of a loving Jewish mother who has been separated from her twin boys for ten years. The last straw is than the court in Vienna has now ordered than she can have no contact whatsoever. It’s a travesty and unjust in the most inhuman way.

She is guilty of nothing and the Jewish community she was part of have not helped her at all. The father is behaving very vindictive and doesn’t see the harm he is doing to his children who are denied the love, care and nurturing of their own mother.

The boys Sammy and Benji Schlesinger attend the Lauder Chabad school in Vienna. Please if you have a heart and a modicum of compassion please, I beg of you, look into this and maybe you can influence the father and the Jewish community there to search their hearts and conscience to reunite Beth with her sons.

Respectfully

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : YOU CANNOT WALK AWAY FROM THIS TERRIBLE INJUSTICE COMMITTED ON YOUR SOIL

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Dear sir,

I am joining everyone today to speak for Beth Alexander and for her children. Everyone knows Beth here in London and everyone believes that she and her boys have suffered the biggest miscarriage of justice, and will do so for as long as this situation goes on. I fail to understand why the Vienna Jewish community doesn't feel the same way.

I don't know what it is you can do for this situation. But as the leader of the community in Vienna, you cannot walk away from this terrible injustice committed on your soil. I ask you to be worthy of the position you are in and to take a stand for the real victims.

I don't know what you have already maybe done, but whatever it is, you cannot tell yourself that it is enough. The children will ask questions when they come of age. You will be among the people who will be made to answer them as to why you have failed them in helping them reunite with their mother.

Perhaps you will care, perhaps you will ignore this all. I pray to Hashem that He opens your eyes and guides you to do the right thing, because who knows if it was not for this moment that you have risen to your position of leadership…

Herr Oskar Deutsch, IKG,

We are half way between International Holocaust Remembrance Day in January and Yom HaShoah in May – the day that Israel remembers the Holocaust. There were many atrocities during this dark time in history but perhaps the most heart-wrenching are the stories where children were separated from their parents. Children who grew up without the unconditional love of a parent that most of us take for granted. Parents who had to go on living with unhealable wounds in their hearts.

It is interesting that the international day marks the date that the allies liberated the Jews from Auschwitz. The date that the victims were rescued. In Israel we remember on the date that the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto fought back. Yes, we were victims, but rather than sit comfortably in that role for perpetuity, we choose to move forward in strength as a deterrent. We will not let this, or anything like it happen again.

Except that in a small pocket of the Jewish world – Vienna, Austria to be exact – the Jewish Community were complicit in tearing Sammy and Benji Shlesinger from their mother, Beth Alexander. Corruption in the Austrian court based on a false psychiatric report stating post-natal depression, a judge who was influenced by a fellow Judge from the Jewish community, and lies spread by the community, resulted in the two babies being snatched from their home by the police whilst their mother was feeding them supper.

After a decade of sporadic visitation rights, often only under supervision, Beth was eventually denied all contact with her sons. Since when has post-natal depression, which Beth did not have, meant losing custody of your children? Unfortunately, the same judge has been on this case for the full 10 years so for justice to happen the same judge would have to admit that she was wrong. The same judge who went to have tea with the father, Dr Michael Shlesinger, a man with a history of physical abuse resulting in a restraining order, to check out the home environment. At no time did she personally assess Beth’s home environment, with or without tea.

In the beginning there were a few years when Beth and her parents were allowed to see the boys. There is a video of a wonderful day out boating on a lake. The boys were happy with their grandparents and their mother. But Shlesinger, an abusive and vindictive ex-husband would rather destroy his sons’ lives rather than see them happy with their mother?

One problem is that although the Austrian social workers, and even the police, saw no untoward or alarming behaviour by Beth and the social workers tried to help her, the Austrian Jewish Community have undue influence as a result of their long-time victim status since WWII. They supported one of their own, and the children be damned. And yet they continue to hide behind this charade of victimhood by claiming that there is nothing they can do in the face of the law.

The boys attend the Lauder Chabad School in Vienna, run by Chabad’s Rabbi Jacob Biderman. Rabbi Biderman turned against Beth, preferring to keep his standing in the community than to speak the truth. The boys were regressing, depressed, and Benji was self-harming by continuously running into a brick wall. Yet Biderman continued to declare that they were fine. This Head of a school is no champion of child welfare. Beth pleaded that she be allowed to attend the boys’ 5th birthday in school as all parents do, but Biderman ignored her. This is the picture of Chabad that is being shown to the world. Not a nice picture.

In the wake of the twins’ upcoming Bar Mitzvah in June, 6,000 people from around the world joined the Facebook group Reuniting Beth with her Sons. We wrote to Herr Oskar Deutsch, the head of the Vienna Jewish Community, and pleaded for his help. His reply was insulting. He wrote that he has no authority over the courts. However, even though it was nothing to do with him, he had called Shlesinger about not allowing Beth to come to the Bar Mitzvah. Shlesinger denied this, although Beth knows nothing of the arrangements or even the exact date. Herr Deutsch then suggested they go to mediation and berated Beth for starting a media campaign where a simple email would have sufficed. Sufficed for what? That Beth could be a spectator at her sons’ Bar Mitzvah? And obviously an email would have been preferable to Herr Deutsch as he could control that situation without any negative publicity.

We in the Jewish world, all know how a community can exert pressure in the name of justice, if they really want justice. The community who spread lies about Beth, could shun Shlesinger until he makes positive changes. The leaders could deny him any communal or spiritual role in their synagogues and schools. But they don’t.

Instead, lead by Oskar Deutsch, they make speeches and hold ceremonies on Holocaust Day, shouting “Never Forget!” and Never Again!”, whilst allowing two more Jewish babies to be forcefully separated from their loving mother. Despite his lofty words, Deutsch seems totally oblivious to the irony. He has no regard for grieving grandparents, a bereft mother, young boys semi-orphaned even though their mother is available to them. How can such a man represent people who suffered so much when he can’t even help two children on his own doorstep in 2021?

So now we turn to Chabad and Ronald S. Lauder, Chairman of the World Jewish Congress, to step in where the Vienna community will not. Please don’t allow the Rabbi who heads the school in both your names, to tarnish the reputation of Chabad and that of Ronald S. Lauder himself. If you have an ounce of loving-kindness in the face of an inhumane travesty, we beg you to use your influence for the good. If not for Beth, then to save the lives of two young boys so that they grow into upstanding men among the People of Israel instead of being destroyed by denying their human rights to their mother’s love.

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : WHAT HAVE YOU ACTUALLY DONE

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Sehr geehrter Herr Deutsch,

My son was ill last weekend. Nothing serious thankfully, but I was able to provide the comfort he sought and look after him. This mutual and very natural comfort seeking is so central to the parenting of a young child. I was very aware that Beth has been deprived of offering that comfort and the boys from receiving it for the best part of 10 years.

The tone of your letter made your disapproval of Beth very clear; you find her situation an inconvenience. You clearly don’t like being challenged. But try as you might to make yourself and your community come out of the tragic situation looking better on the world stage, the fact remains that you have collectively participated in the deprivation of two little boys’ of their mother. When they were ill, when they sought reassurance, at their birthday parties and no doubt many more situations over the years.

You responded to my previous letter saying that you would support discussions to permit Beth access to her children. It has now been a couple of weeks. What have you actually done? What are you waiting for? Time is of the essence here. Every day is a day too long to keep them away from their mum.
Please act now.

Regards,
Tamara

Open Letter To Ronald Lauder : YOU RONALD HAVE DONE SO MUCH GOOD FOR THE JEWISH COMMUNITY WORLDWIDE

jspinner@lauderfoundation.com
info@worldjewishcongress.org
wjc@wjc.co.il

[I feel responsible as someone brought up and part of the Chabad community, and does not condone Biderman's role on the case.]

************************************************

Dear Ronald Lauder,

I have recently become aware of the plight of two vulnerable young children. Sammy and Benjy Schlesinger are 12 year old twin brothers who attend the Lauder Chabad Campus in Vienna, Austria. At the age of 2, they were taken from their mother (Beth Alexander) by armed police and have been separated from her ever since. As a graduate of a Chabad school and a member of the community, I am reaching out to you for help.

This story first came to my attention 10 years ago, and I assumed it would be resolved by the court. I was confident that the court would have the children’s best interest and awarding custody with the father (Michael Schlesinger) would mean that Beth was deemed unsafe to care for the boys. I naively had faith in the Austrian court, which you - a World Jewish Congress President and former United States ambassador to Austria - would know more about.

It was only recently that the story reached my attention again.  I was shocked discover that Beth - a British citizen who now resides in London after being driven away by members of the Viennese Jewish community - has had zero direct contact with the boys for 5 years. It was then when I learned more about Beth and the plight of the boys. I discovered that Beth was a respectful, dignified woman who hates being in the limelight. This meant, her voice has not been heard all these years. However, friends and supporters who have watched her anguish have had enough and are now bringing attention to the case here in the UK.  This is when I was made aware of the corruption in this case from the court caused by the Jewish community. This corruption has punished two pupils that attend a school you share a name with and support, leaving them in a vulnerable state.

Michael Schlesinger not only mistreated and physically abused Beth in their short marriage, but he continued that abuse by withholding a Gett, and depriving his sons from having contact with their mother. He was able to do so, with the assistance of the school and Jewish community. Schlesinger began his plot by first convincing a friend of Beth’s that she was mentally unstable, encouraging the friend to accompany Beth to a psychologist under false pretences to prove this. This friend managed to do so by persuading Beth to see a parenting expert on weaning advice. Unfortunately for Michael, the psychologist could prove no such thing. Yet the seed was planted, and this friend spread a rumour of Beth’s mental-health issues, which years later she admitted was a lie. I feel it is important to add here, that having Post-Partum Depression (which Beth didn't!) would require support from a community, not having babies taken away from their mother by armed police. This mistreatment from the community caused two vulnerable pupils in your institution to begin a life of trauma. The corruption then continued as Judge Göttlicher, the judge in this case controlled by the IKG in the past 10 years.

This story is a sad one, as it's not just about an abusive evil ex-husband, which unfortunately can occur anywhere. This is about a community who stood by the abuse and didn't step in. Beth was made unwelcome, living in a foreign country with a different language, having everyone against her.  I am not sure if you are aware, but the Chabad Lauder Campus participated in this mistreatment to Beth. Rabbi Biderman testified in court against Beth, and Beth was refused to attend events in school, which only causes damaged to the children. This is the antithesis to Chabad ideology, which practices love and inclusion to all Jews. You may not be actively involved in the school, but I don’t think you would be happy to know that your institution is associated with the mistreatment of vulnerable children. The Viennese hate outsiders and Beth was a victim to that. This is something you may relate to, when you recall the time the community banned you from the board elections. In your case, it was resolved between you and Oskar Deutch in 2013, likely due to your money and powers, something Beth does not possess.

Beth is an incredibly strong woman who has been through unimaginable torture and has been very quiet over the years as she's not a vindictive person. However, as a community, the Viennese need to support Beth and encourage Schlesinger to allow the boys to have contact with their mother. Not doing so will cause the community to pay dearly when these boys become future adults in the community. Michael Schlesinger's own father was given the same treatment when he was 3 years old, and he has had no contact since. He is repeating the same traumatic patterns he experienced, which the boys will continue if this isn’t stopped. Any foreigner who has heard Beth’s story are now refusing to marry or move into the community in fear of similar treatment. This means, that the boys play an important role in the future to the community and allowing them to grow up in a traumatic home will have a detrimental effect on the community.

You may reply that you cannot help as this is a court issue. However, this is actually about the community, and you have the powers to influence them. They forced the courts to make this decision (social workers and non-Jewish Austrian professionals always sided with Beth). As you know, Vienna has a dark history with the Holocaust, and they are afraid to go against the community in fear of being anti-Semitic. Siding with Beth, means they risk their relationship with Jewish community that's they've tried so hard to repair, which you have played an admirable part in.

You, Ronald, have done so much good for the worldwide Jewish community. You have supported many of my Chabad friends and relatives with funds to establish their institutions. You hold an incredible amount of power in the Viennese Jewish community and beyond. You know that if you called out the Viennese community on this, they would listen. Please use your power to help Sammy, Benjy and the future of the Viennese Jewish community.

Open Letter To Oskar Deutsch : END THIS OUTRAGE

o.deutsch@ikg-wien.at
office@ikg-wien.at

Mr. Deutsch,

I am the grandson and great grandson of Oskar and Hannah Grunsfeld and Tzvi and Karoline Grunsfeld. My grandparents and great grandparents lived in Vienna for a few years when they were expelled by the Nazis from Lakenbach in 1933. As such, it is with great regret that I have watched the regression of this once outstanding Jewish community.

I am also one of more than 6000 members of a Facebook group, comprised of friends and supporters of Beth Alexander, who have mobilized from every corner of the world, from every walk of life, united and determined to help Ms. Alexander end this most outrageous injustice for once and for all.

As such, I read your “response” letter addressed to Rabbi Mirvis with deep disappointment. You began your letter with the words “K’vod HaRav”, but your letter contained the opposite of Kavod HaRav. While I found nearly every sentence of your “response letter” to be inaccurate and/or offensive, I wish to focus on the two “arguments” that I personally found the most offensive.

First, you trotted out the mantra that the Viennese Jewish Community (IKG) does not have the power to overrule the court decisions which awarded sole custody to Mr. Schlesinger. Of course, all people possessing even a single a brain cell understand this basic legal premise. Rather, the Chief Rabbi, and thousands of Jews around the world, have implored you to employ every effort to persuade/influence, or if needed, pressure, Mr. Schlesinger to, for the first time in his life, act in the interest of his sons, and stop depriving his sons access to their mother. Mr. Schlesinger
could allow Ms. Alexander to take her rightful place as the mother of her children in the blink of an eye.  You are fully aware of this. Any person with an ounce of intelligence is fully aware of this. Thus, for you to fob off the Chief Rabbi with the irrelevancy about not having the ability to overturn a Court Decision is an outrage.

Second, you throw your hands up and play the victim, arguing that the IKG has already taken every possible measure it can to assist Ms. Alexander. Of course, this is not true. To give just the most obvious example, the IKG Rabbinic and lay leadership should issue an immediate statement that until Mr. Schlesinger allows Ms. Alexander full and complete access to her children:

  • No shul shall admit Mr. Schlesinger.
  • No IKG member should step into Mr. Schlesinger’s home or allow him into their home.
  • No member of the IKG should conduct any form of business transaction with Mr. Schlesinger.
  • No member of the IKG should speak to Mr. Schlesinger.
  • Mr. Schlesinger shall be excluded from all benefits available to members of the IKG.

You say you understand Ms. Alexander’s pain but have you actually considered for even one moment,  how you would feel, if God forbid you or a loved one were suddenly cut off from your children for TEN YEARS.

Mr. Deutsch, the entire world Jewish community is aghast at the conduct of the IKG. It is not too late to act to rectify this most egregious injustice, for which the IKG shares significant
responsibility, via its actions and omissions.

The Jewish World implores you as the President of the IKG, to take the appropriate and immediate actions to end this outrage.

Respectfully, Gerry Grunsfeld, Esq.
